The clarification came after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they struck the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf, retaliating for US-Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

US Central command in an X post denied Iran's claim of striking down USSAbraham Lincoln, saying, "The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn’t even come close. The Lincoln continues to launch aircraft in support of CENTCOM’s relentless campaign to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime."
In a differenc post US Central command also claimed of downing an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette during the opening phase of Operation Epic Fury. In an X post, CENTCOM stated: “An Iranian Jamaran-class corvette was struck by U.S. forces during the start of Operation Epic Fury. The ship is currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman at a Chah Bahar pier.”
As the Iran-Israel-US war intensifies, Iran made bold claims that its Revolutionary Guards said that they struck the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf, avenging US-Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a local media statement, the Guards asserted the carrier took four ballistic missile hits, declaring that “land and sea will increasingly become the graveyard of terrorist aggressors.”
The USS Abraham Lincoln, a Nimitz-class carrier stationed in the Arabian Sea and northern Indian Ocean since early January 2026, after the US military buildup against rising Iran tensions. It carries advanced F-35 stealth jets that evade enemy radar.
Its strike group features three destroyers loaded with Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles, typically escorted by a nuclear-powered submarine firing the same weapons.
Departing San Diego in late November 2025, after South China Sea drills, it entered CENTCOM's Middle East zone via the Gulf of Oman to deter Iranian threats from protests and proxies, remaining deployed through the escalation into full war.
