Satya Niketan collapse: CM Rekha Gupta announces Rs 5 lakh aid, orders immediate demolition of unsafe adjoining building

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced a Rs 5 lakh relief for those injured in the Satya Niketan PG collapse and confirmed that the dangerous adjacent building will be razed.

The chief minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, visited AIIMS hospital on Tuesday to meet those affected by the September 6 Satya Niketan building collapse. The chief minister assured the affected families of comprehensive medical care and financial compensation. Gupta further stated that the building near the site of the collapse has been declared unsafe and would be demolished soon.

The collapse of the multi-story student-paying guest accommodation that led to the deaths of seven people has prompted many police investigations and municipal safety operations across the national capital city.

Hospital inspection and condition of affected people

In the process of interacting with medical staff and the families of the affected people, the chief minister provided an update regarding the health condition of those admitted in the hospital.

Casualties of the disaster: The collapse incident led to the deaths of seven people, out of which two were local laborers while twelve others were injured in the structure failure.

Hospitalisation and release of victims: Two children who have recovered from injuries will be discharged, while the third one will continue to receive treatment in the intensive care unit.

Recovery of labourers: The injured construction labourer is undergoing recovery due to his severe leg injury at the facility.

Government assistance and coordination with families

The state government has utilised administrative services to assist mourning families and cover their medical costs.

Financial assistance: The Delhi government has assured to provide financial assistance to the families of the dead children and injured labourers.

Administrative support: The state government facilitated the transit arrangements of mourning families who have taken out the bodies of the victims from Delhi.

Maintaining contact: The district administrators maintain constant contact with all concerned parents to facilitate administrative assistance.

Investigation by the police and upcoming demolitions

The police and municipal authorities have hastened the proceedings against the property owners and architectural alterations of structures.

Demolishing of adjoining building: Municipal engineers identified the standing building near the accident as a high-risk factor, which will be demolished.

Arrest of property owners: The Delhi Police filed an FIR against the property owners such as Hariram, his wife Urmila, and son Mahesh.

Basement construction work: As per the statement of Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal, unauthorised construction and renovations were carried out in the basement of the building before the accident.
