'MIGA!': Trump demands 'unconditional surrender' from Iran; says no deal with Tehran
President Trump also said that there would be no deal with Iran.
by Zee Media Bureau · Zee NewsUS President Donald Trump said on Friday that "there will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER".
Taking on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, "After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.
"IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. 'MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!)."
The president has so far refused to set a deadline for ending hostilities with Iran. In a Time Magazine interview published late Thursday, he said he thinks the administration’s goals could be achieved within four to five weeks, but stressed that he has “no time limits on anything” and wants “to get it done.”
Trump’s statement came as the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran completed one week.
Several reports suggest, Trump’s ultimatum to Tehran seemed to intentionally mirror the demand issued to Imperial Japan by the US, UK, and China at the July 1945 Potsdam Conference, which called on Tokyo to “proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all Japanese armed forces, and to provide proper and adequate assurances of their good faith in such action.”
The remarks come amid a continuous escalation in regional tensions following a joint US-Israeli military strike on Iranian territory on February 28, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior officials, prompting a strong response from Tehran.
In retaliation, Iran launched multiple drone and missile attacks across several Arab nations, targeting US military bases and Israeli assets.
Israel has continued its strikes on Tehran and expanded operations into Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah. Earlier on Thursday, Trump stated he wanted to be personally involved in selecting Iran’s next supreme leader after Khamenei’s death in last week’s US-Israeli strike, according to Axios.
He also criticised the likelihood of the late Iranian leader’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, taking over, even though he is widely regarded as a top contender for the role.
"They are wasting their time. Khamenei's son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy [Rodriguez] in Venezuela," Axios reported citing Trump.
