In a shocking incident, at least nine people were killed and 22 others injured in a shocking accident on Friday after a bus veered off the Ghat Road and plunged into a gorge in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitaramaraju district. 

The accident occurred on the Chintur-Naredumilli ghat road when the driver apparently failed to negotiate a sharp turn and hit the safety wall before it fell into the gorge.

The passengers belongs from Chittoor district who were on their way to Annavaram temple in Kakinada district after visiting Bhadrachalam temple in Telangana.

Atleast five police vehicles and three ambulances rushed to shift the injured.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep anguish over the tragic bus accident, calling it a heartbreaking loss of lives. He added that the situation and assess the relief measures being provided to the victims.

In a post on X, Naidu said, "The accident involving a private bus carrying passengers near Chittoor district in Alluri Sitarama Raju has deeply shaken us. It is heartbreaking that several lives were lost in this accident. I have spoken with the officials regarding the accident and gathered details about the assistance being provided to the affected individuals. I have instructed the officials to take all necessary measures to ensure that the injured receive better medical aid. The government will stand by the families of those who lost their lives in the accident."

As per the IANS reports, Home Minister V. Anitha and Tribal Welfare and Women and Child Welfare Minister G. Sandhya Rani left for the accident site.

PM Modi announces ex gratia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those who received an injury in the tragic bus accident.

In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on X, he expressed deep grief over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” he said.
