Amid the dense fog in Delhi-NCR deadly pile-up triggered on the Delhi-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning claimed four lives, and several others were injured after buses and cars collided and caught fire, India Today reported.

The accident took place at Yamuna Expressway's Milestone 127 amid low visibility, Police said, ANI said.

Following the incident, the police team and fire department personnel  reached the spot to carry out a rescue and relief operation.

Multiple vehicles were involved in the accident, which resulted in a massive fire engulfing several buses and cars, Shlok Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mathura, said.

"An accident took place at the Yamuna Expressway Milestone 127. The reason was low visibility. Seven buses and three cars collided, and as a result, a fire broke out in all the vehicles. The rescue operation is nearing completion, and so far, four people have died. Twenty-five people have been admitted to the hospital, and none of them are in a serious condition," SSP Kumar said, ANI reported.

A dense blanket of toxic fog continued to engulf the National Capital on Tuesday, reducing visibility to zero and severely disrupting road, rail and air traffic. The hazardous conditions led to road accidents and major flight disruptions.

PM Modi Reaction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed condolences and announced that the ex gratia of  Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF for the kin of the deceased and injured would get Rs. 50,000.

PM Modi said in a post on X, "the loss of lives due to a mishap on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, is extremely painful. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000."
