Whoopi Goldberg Says ‘Damn You All’ to Republicans Staying Quiet After Trump Criticized Rob Reiner: ‘There’s No Way to Justify It’

by · Variety

Whoopi Goldberg is condemning any Republican staying silent after Donald Trump issued a takedown of Rob Reiner despite the director’s tragic death at 78 years old. On the latest episode of “The View” (via EW), Goldberg said “there’s no justification” for Trump’s post, which alleged that Reiner’s death was “due to the anger he caused others” from being outspoken against Trump. Reiner’s son, Nick, was has been arrested in connection to his parents’ deaths.

“There’s no justification for him to have written what he wrote,” said Goldberg, who was directed by Reiner in the 1996 drama film “Ghosts of Mississippi.” “There’s no way to justify it and all those Republicans who are quiet, damn you all. Damn you all.”

“I don’t know how you were raised, but this man’s family is in deep mourning and what you said and what you’ve doubled down on, make you bad for the country,” Goldberg added of Trump. “That’s my opinion, but I see a lot of conservatives are feeling the same way and I have to say: there’s something that we all know is that when something horrific happens, we come together. We don’t delineate because someone didn’t like you. That’s not what we do.”

Goldberg highlighted the “high-profile conservatives” who are “actually calling out” Trump’s post about Rob Reiner as “bad for the country.” One example is Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy, who said Trump “should’ve said nothing” about Reiner’s death.

Trump made his statement on Reiner in a Truth Social post that read: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

Trump doubled down on his criticism of Reiner hours later when asked during a press conference about Republicans condemning his original statement. He responded: “Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned… I thought he was very bad for our country.”

Goldberg’s “The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin also highlighted the Republicans who condemned Trump for his Reiner post, saying: “It’s not as much as I’d want to see, but I do want to shout those out who have been powerful.” She proceeded to name Kentucky representative Thomas Massie, who criticized Trump’s comments as “inappropriate and disrespectful,” and Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who noted Reiner’s death is a “family tragedy” and is “not about politics or political enemies.”

Trump was widely condemned by Hollywood for his statements on Reiner. Josh Gad posted on Threads: “There is no low that is too low for this fucking psychopath. Rob Reiner was 1000 times the man you are and unlike you, he actually cared about the American people. Go paint your hand on your gold fucking toilet and destroy things like the White House. That’s what you do best.”

Jack White took to Instagram and eviscerated Trump by calling him a “disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child,” adding: “Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much. To use someone’s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin. Shame on you trump and anyone who defends this.”

Jimmy Kimmel bashed Trump as “hateful and vile” for going after Reiner after such a tragic death. The late night host added: “What we need at a time like this, besides common sense when it comes to guns and mental health care, is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our president, because he has none of it to give. Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense.”
