Man Who Threatened Harith Iskander & Family Sentenced to 5 Months in Jail and RM2,000 Fine
by Renushara · WORLD OF BUZZLast week, it was reported that Malaysian comedian, Harith Iskander, and his family were receiving death threats after his ‘Ham Sap Kopi‘ joke was accused of “making space for others to ridicule Islam”, leading his show at the Petronas Philharmonic Hall (DFP) to be cancelled.
Following this, Harith Iskander’s ex-wife, Dr Jezamine Lim, filed a police report and law enforcement officers arrested a man for suspicion of issuing the death threats.
Now, according to a report by Berita Harian, the accused, 31-year-old Izzuddin Md Salim, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 5 months in jail and a fine of RM2,000 by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court for making criminal threats against the comedian and his family.
“I only intended to play with Harith Iskander’s feelings, I had no other intention. I apologise to the victim’s family,” the accused pleaded.
The court has since ordered his prison sentence to start from the date he was arrested, which was on Friday (January 24). Should he fail to pay his fine, he could also face an additional month in jail.
Based on the charge, he is accused of sending WhatsApp messages with pictures containing threatening words implying that the accused would commit the crime of rape and murder.
The messages were received by Dr Jezamine, who is also Harith Iskander’s manager.
The offence is charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 7 years or a fine, or both if convicted.
