Man arrested over Offaly fire released without charge

A man in his 20s, who was arrested as part of an investigation into the deaths of a four-year-old boy and his grand-aunt in Co Offaly last year, has been released without charge.

Tadgh Farrell and 60-year-old Mary Holt died in a fire at a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry, after a petrol bomb was thrown through the front window on 6 December.

Tadgh was visiting his grandmother and his grand-aunt at the time of the attack. His remains and Ms Holt's remains were discovered in the front room.

The man in his 20s who was arrested on Wednesday 29 April has now been released without charge.

A file will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Earlier this week gardaí also arrested another man in his 20s, a man in his 30s and a boy aged in his teens.

They were released without charge last night and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A fifth person, also in his 20s, appeared in court on Friday, charged in connection with the fire.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
