President Connolly meets King Charles in Scotland

President Catherine Connolly has met King Charles as part of her four-day official visit to Scotland.

President Connolly was a special guest at a dinner hosted by the King at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire last night.

A spokesperson for the President said a number of other guests were in attendance at the dinner.

Dumfries House, which is situated on an extensive parkland estate, an hour south of Glasgow, is the headquarters of the King's Foundation, a charitable organisation established by King Charles to manage his various philanthropic interests.

Earlier in the day, King Charles had hosted a reception at the "Harmony in Food and Farming" summit at the 18th century mansion.

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry was also in attendance at that event.

President Connolly and King Charles met previously at Buckingham Palace in May last year during Connolly’s three-day official visit to England.

During that meeting Ms Connolly invited King Charles to make a state visit to Ireland, which he accepted in principle.

President Connolly will meet with Glasgow's First Citizen Jacqueline Mclaren at Glasgow City Hall before attending GAA training and a musical performance at St Patrick's Primary school.
