Competitor, 50s, killed in Skerries 100 motorcycle race

A man in his 50s has died after a single-motorcycle collision at a race in Skerries, Co Dublin.

The incident on the closed racing circuit happened shortly before midday at Duke's Bend, Baldongan.

The man, who had been competing in the Skerries 100 motorcycle race, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner has been notified, and the scene is being forensically examined.

In a statement, Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club said it "regrets to announce a competitor has sadly passed away following a tragic accident that occurred during a race which took place today".

It said further details would be released later.
