Police have rushed to a field in the Greater Manchester area after a body of a young baby was found, the Manchester Evening News (MEN) understands. Emergency services are currently in attendance off Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, Salford, close to the motorway bridge.

According to the MEN, eyewitnesses said the entrance to Ashtons Field and the Linnyshaw Loopline has now been taped off with many police officers at the scene. A forensic tent has also been put up with Greater Manchester Police confirming they are in attendance in Little Hulton with a GMP spokesperson confirming remains of a young baby have been found.

An ambulance was reportedly seen in attendance off Cleggs Lane alongside police at 1pm today (November 20). Officers have been in attendance since. GMP and North West Ambulance Service has both confirmed their attendance.

A press conference took place at 5.30pm today. Chief Superintendent and District Commander for Salford, Neil Blackwood said: "Tragically, today, we have found what we believe to be the remains of a young baby on Ravenscraig Road in Salford. We have a scene in place, and you will likely see an increased presence of officers in the local area while we carry out enquiries to understand the circumstances.

"At this stage, we are following several lines of enquiry, and we are working with local partner agencies to understand who this baby could be, how long they have been here, and how they have sadly died - we are now calling this baby, Baby A.

"All of this is extremely sensitive, and this investigation needs to be handled with the utmost care it deserves, and it is going to take time."
