San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muniz said the plane crashed into an industrial facility in her municipality, located only a few miles from the Toluca International Airport.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

Muniz said the area has been secured and that residents who were evacuated have begun returning to their homes after authorities determined no further risk remained.

"Our priority was to safeguard the well-being of the residents of Atenco," she said in a statement.

Mexico State Civil Protection said multiple fire and police agencies responded to the crash, with additional support provided by the Navy and National Guard.

"The public is urged not to approach the area and to remain informed through official channels," it said.
