Boy who died at Sutton Park lake named as Daniel Drewitt as school pays tribute to 'loved sportsman'

Daniel Drewitt who attended Colmers School & Sixth Form College in Rednal died at Sutton Park’s Powell’s Pool on Thursday (July 10).
The 16-year-old got into difficulty while swimming in the outdoor lake at the Sutton Coldfield park at around 6pm.
Despite extensive search and rescue efforts, the teen could not be saved and his body was recovered from the pool shortly after 10pm.

Staff from the school have paid tribute and said: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of Daniel Drewitt, a Year 11 student at Colmers School, who tragically died yesterday evening.
"Daniel was a young man who brought light and character to our entire school community.
“He was confident, full of life, a talented sportsman, and so deeply loved by staff and fellow pupils alike. His warm presence and positive spirit will be sorely missed.
"We are doing all we can to support our school community during this incredibly difficult time."
The school statement continued: “Our pastoral team, school counsellors, and senior staff are working together to provide dedicated spaces and support for both students and staff.
“This includes opportunities for quiet reflection, one-to-one conversations, and access to emotional and wellbeing support throughout the days and weeks ahead.
"We know how deeply this loss will be felt by many, and we are committed to ensuring no member of our school community feels alone in their grief.
"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Daniel’s family. We ask urgent respect for their privacy at this profoundly difficult time."

West Midlands Police said Daniel’s death is not being treated as suspicious and it is liaising with the coroner.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We are supporting Daniel’s family at this tragic time. Our thoughts are with them, and we ask that they are given privacy.”
