UK Foreign Office updates European holiday hotspot terrorism risk and says 'cannot be ruled out'
by Emily Chaplin, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/emily-chaplin/ · Birmingham LiveThe Foreign Office has issued new advice for UK travellers visiting Croatia. New information about the risk of terrorist attacks in the European holiday hotspot was added on January 15.
British tourists travelling abroad have been warned that the threat of terrorist attacks globally affecting UK interests and British nationals is 'high'. This includes from groups and individuals who view the UK and its citizens as targets, the Foreign Office said.
There is no recent history of terrorism in Croatia, however the Foreign Office said that 'attacks cannot be ruled out'. The advice went on to say that 'attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners'.

Holidaymakers have therefore been urged to 'stay aware of their surroundings at all times'.
Crime levels are low in Croatia and violent crime is rare, however the Foreign Office has warned visitors about pickpocketing and incidents of attacks and sexual assaults in taxis.
Pickpockets are known to operate in tourist areas, so travellers should avoid carrying large sums of cash and have been told not to leave valuables unattended. Valuables should be stored in hotel safes if available.
There have been some reports of sexual assaults in taxis in Croatia, prompting the Foreign Office to share guidance on how holidaymakers can reduce their risk.
The advice reads: "Take a photo of the inside, where the number of the taxi is visible, and send it to a friend or someone else. Share your ride status on the taxi app. Make a call while in the taxi telling someone which taxi it is and where you are going."
