Report from RNZ
Train delays on the Kapiti line this morning were caused by trespassers in a tunnel attempting to steal copper cables.

KiwiRail’s General Manager for the Wellington Metro Network, Andy Lyon, said the trespassers had left the site by the time Police were alerted.

However, the incident caused some delays, as KiwiRail needed to check the system was safe before re-commencing services.

Earlier Report from RNZ
Trains have resumed between Wellington and Porirua after a person ran on to the tracks.

In an alert to passengers shortly after 6 this morning, Metlink warned of a “service change due to emergency services” on the Kāpiti line.

Metlink later confirmed a person had been on the tracks. “Police were called to apprehend them.”

Trains were to be replaced by buses, though Metlink said they were not running to timetable and capacity was limited. Passengers were advised to seek alternate transport.

Shortly after 8am Metlink advised that services between Wellington and Porirua had resumed though there were delays and buses were still being used.
