Donald Trump has lashed out at his longtime supporters for believing the "Jeffrey Epstein Hoax", amid allegations the US president is 'covering up' the infamous files related to the sex trafficker who he was close with.

Trump has been trying to contain a political crisis as his Republican supporters continue to criticise his administration's handling of much-hyped records in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation.

The files allegedly contain the names of rich elites that associated with the infamous sex trafficker - which included Mr Trump - and those who collaborated in his crimes.

The US president has come under fire in recent days for his Government’s decision not to release the files, which his administration now claims don't exist. In his latest outburst, he blasted his voters and colleagues for believing the 'radical left hoax'.

"Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this 'bullshit' hook, line, and sinker," Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social site.

"They haven't learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years."

"Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don't even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don't want their support anymore," he went on.

In a separate post, he claimed the files were created by the Democratic party, and "now my so-called 'friends' are playing right into their hands."

The President has grown increasingly frustrated, going as far as to call the files a “hoax” created by Joe Biden and Barack Obama, despite the release of them being a key campaign promise during last year’s election.

“He's dead for a long time,” Mr Trump said earlier today about the infamous paedophile.

“He was never a big factor in terms of life. I don't understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody.”

Speaking from Air Force One, Mr Trump added: 'It's pretty boring stuff. It's sordid, but it's boring, and I don't understand why it keeps going.

“I think really only pretty bad people, including fake news, want to keep something like that.”

Trump has faced growing pressure from his own base in recent days, with many of his supporters seeing the release of the “Epstein Files” a key promise of his administration.

Him and many figures in his administration, including FBI director Kash Patel and his deputy, Dan Bongino, have spent years stoking dark and disproved conspiracy theories, including embracing QAnon-tinged propaganda that casts Trump as a saviour sent to demolish the "deep state".

The president's comments so far have not been enough to quell those who are still demanding answers.

"For this to go away, you're going to lose 10%" of the "Make America Great Again" movement, former adviser Steve Bannon said during a gathering of young conservatives recently.

Far-right commentator Jack Posobiec has said he will not rest "until we go full January 6 committee on the Jeffrey Epstein files".

House Speaker Mike Johnson also appeared to break with Mr Trump, calling for the Justice Department to "put everything out there and let the people decide."

"The White House and the White House team are privy to facts that I don't know. This isn't my lane. I haven't been involved in that, but I agree with the sentiment to put it out there," Mr Johnson told conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.

The President has previously called on his Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to release “anything credible” connected to Epstein.

“But credible information? Let them give it - anything that's credible, I would say, let them have it,” he said.

On Monday, it emerged Republican lawmakers had blocked an attempt by the Democrat party to force the release of the files.

Taking to TruthSocial last week, Trump hit out at critics of his administration, calling for the release of the files.

He wrote: “What’s going on with my ‘boys’ and, in some cases, ‘gals?’ They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!

“We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening. We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and ‘selfish people’ are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein.

“For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again. Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden Administration, who conned the World with the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, 51 ‘Intelligence’ Agents, ‘THE LAPTOP FROM HELL,’ and more?

“They created the Epstein Files, just like they created the FAKE Hillary Clinton/Christopher Steele Dossier that they used on me, and now my so-called ‘friends’ are playing right into their hands.”
