'Second-tier senator': Trump posts lengthy tirade against Josh Hawley

President Donald Trump has now singled out Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) — one of his biggest supporters in the U.S. Senate — after he was the lone Republican to side with all Democrats in a recent committee vote.

In a 169-word post to his Truth Social account on Wednesday, Trump tore into the Missouri Republican for being the lone vote to advance a Democratic bill that would ban members of Congress from trading stocks. He also targeted Hawley for voting against an amendment that would have authorized a review of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) stock trading.

"Why would one 'Republican,' Senator Josh Hawley from the Great State of Missouri, join with all of the Democrats to block a Review, sponsored by Senator Rick Scott, and with the support of almost all other Republicans, of Nancy Pelosi’s Stock Trading over the last 25 years," Trump wrote in his uniquely bizarre capitalization style. "The information was inappropriately released just minutes before the Vote — Very much like SABOTAGE!"

"The Democrats, because of our tremendous ACHIEVEMENTS and SUCCESS, have been trying to 'Target' me for a long period of time, and they’re using Josh Hawley, who I got elected TWICE, as a pawn to help them," he continued. "I wonder why Hawley would pass a Bill that Nancy Pelosi is in absolute love with — He is playing right into the dirty hands of the Democrats. It’s a great Bill for her, and her 'husband,' but so bad for our Country! I don’t think real Republicans want to see their President, who has had unprecedented success, TARGETED, because of the 'whims' of a second-tier Senator named Josh Hawley!"

As Trump mentioned, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) proposed an amendment to the legislation (which is named the "PELOSI Act") that would review all trading done by Pelosi and her husband, Paul, dating back to 2000. Hawley has not yet publicly responded to Scott or Trump about why he voted to shut down the amendment.

"I think it's critical to get to the heart of why this bill was proposed, and get transparency for the American people," Scott said Wednesday. "I agree that we've gotta figure out why people don't trust, and I think Speaker Pelosi is the prime example."
