Dallas officer injured after suspect takes control of squad car

It is unclear whether the suspect was struck by a vehicle after jumping onto the freeway.

A Dallas police officer is recovering after an arrest transport took a dangerous turn Saturday night, according to police.

Police said the incident happened on May 30 while the officer was escorting a suspect to jail in a squad car. During the transport, the suspect somehow gained control of the vehicle while the officer was still inside.

Authorities said the officer was able to regain control of the squad car. The suspect then jumped out of the vehicle onto a freeway.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and transported both the officer and the suspect to a hospital.

Police said the officer suffered minor injuries. It is unclear whether the suspect was struck by a vehicle after jumping onto the freeway.

The investigation remains ongoing.
