The community of Frisco is mourning the loss of two teenage girls killed in a sledding accident.

Frisco police said Wednesday that the second 16-year-old girl involved in the crash died at the hospital from her injuries.

Relatives identified the victims as Elizabeth Angle and Grace Brito. Both were sophomores at Frisco Wakeland High School.

According to preliminary police findings, the girls were riding on a sled being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old boy. Witnesses told officers the sled hit a curb and then collided with a tree.

Frisco police said they “will continue to work closely with the Denton County District Attorney’s Office related to the investigation and determine the appropriate path forward.”

Police also urged the public not to share unverified information online and said there is no indication alcohol was involved in the crash.

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Angle

Angle was a sophomore and a soccer player who had recently turned 16.

In social media posts, Lizzie’s mother described her daughter as a bright light, a fun spirit and a brave soul.

On Wednesday, she shared photos of both girls, writing, “These sweet besties are together forever. I find some comfort knowing they are in heaven together. Such beautiful girls.”

“She was not just a great student athlete, but an outstanding friend, outstanding sister and daughter,” said her club soccer coach, Luis Ramos.

Grace “Gracie” Brito

The Express Cheer & Dance team called Brito their guardian angel in a social media post alongside her cheer photo.

“Gracie’s positivity always radiated to her teammates, she grew up to become a leader within our Express family, and we are so lucky that we got to have time with her,” the post read.

“We will continue to honor Gracie every way we can and look for her in everything we do.”

The team said it plans to honor Brito at a competition this weekend.

Frisco Wakeland Principal Donna Edge said in a letter sent to parents and shared with NBC 5 that both girls will be honored during the second period when classes resume. Counselors will also be available to support students.
