Trump says he doesn’t need China’s help in resolving Iran conflict

by · The Washington Times

President Trump said he does not need China’s help to achieve victory in the U.S. conflict with Iran.

Mr. Trump, departing the White House Tuesday for a visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, said the U.S. can resolve the war on its own.

“We’ll win it one way or another,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “We’ll win it peacefully or otherwise.”

Many experts believe China, the chief importer of Iranian oil and a strategic partner to Tehran, could play a role in mediating the conflict. But Beijing would likely seek concessions if Mr. Trump requested help in getting Iran to relinquish its aims for a nuclear weapon and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr. Trump said he does not need Beijing’s help and said his visit would be a success.

“Good things are going to happen,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Trump also praised Pakistani mediators as “great,” despite concerns from Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham that Pakistan allowed Iran to shield aircraft on Pakistani territory.

Mr. Trump said “one way or another,” all sides would reach a deal that is good for the American people and the Iranian people.

“We’re gonna see what happens,” Mr. Trump said. “We’re only going to make a good deal.”
