by · The Washington Times

A Kansas man is in federal custody after commenting on Facebook that he wanted to kill President Trump.

Jaden Read, 24, of Clearwater, near Park City, where Mr. Trump held a rally on Monday, is charged with making threats against the president, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas said.

Federal prosecutors allege that, in comments made Thursday on a KAKE News Facebook article, Mr. Read said, “Let’s shoot Trump honestly, where’s our shooter? I’m tired of living this money life. … I just got a 308 and 305 round and I’m killing this pedo.”

Mr. Read is also accused of commenting online Thursday, “Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself” and “IK where your speech will be. Already mapped out roofs around. Finna get kirked since yall couldn’t help him,” referring to the Sept. 10, 2025, assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, federal prosecutors said.

Law enforcement arrested Mr. Read in Clearwater on Saturday, federal prosecutors said. He will remain in custody until his detention hearing, which is slated for Wednesday, according to court records.
