Five people shot outside dorms at Virginia State University; one in critical condition
by Brad Matthews · The Washington TimesA shooting at Virginia State University on Saturday sent five to the hospital, with four suffering non-life-threatening injuries and the fifth in critical condition.
Officials at the school, a historically Black university in Ettrick, said on social media that the shootings took place at around 1:30 a.m. outside some of the school’s residence halls.
School police officers found the five victims, sent them for treatment and initiated a lockdown at the school, which was lifted at around 8:22 a.m. None of the five victims were publicly identified by school officials.
School officials also said on social media that the incident involved multiple suspects. Authorities have not released any details on the identities or possible motives of the shooters.
The ongoing investigation, school officials said, is being led by the Chesterfield County Police Department, with aid from school police, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
New students attending VSU moved into their dorms last week, while continuing students moved in Friday, per the school website. The fall semester is scheduled to begin Monday.
