A 77-year-old Florida man convicted of the hammer beating death of a woman is set to become the 16th person executed this year in the nation’s busiest death chamber.

Florida is set to execute Curtis Beasley on Tuesday for the 1995 killing of Carolyn Monfort. The case has drawn focus to age, mental decline and the state's accelerating use of the death penalty.
