DUBAI, United Arab Emirates >> Iran remained ‌largely cut off from the outside world today after authorities blacked out the internet to curb growing unrest, as ‌video showed buildings aflame in anti-government protests raging in cities across the country.

Iran experienced a nationwide internet blackout on Thursday amidst widespread protests against dire economic conditions. Internet monitoring groups reported a near-total shutdown, a tactic previously used by the government during crises to quell dissent and limit information flow.
