The Israeli military has said it killed senior Hamas commander Raed Saed, one of the architects of the 7 October 2023 attacks on Israel, in a strike on a car in Gaza City.

Israel described Raad Saad as the head of the weapons production headquarters of Hamas' military wing, who led the group's "force build-up", and one of the "architects" of the Oct 7, 2023, attack that sparked the war in Gaza.

Israel says it killed a top Hamas commander in Gaza after an explosive device detonated and wounded two soldiers in the territory’s south.

The strike killed Raed Saad, a senior commander in Hamas' Qassam Brigades, the Israeli military said.

Hamas said the attack on Saturday was a breach of the truce. The militant group did not comment on Israel’s claim to have killed one of its members.

Raed Saed is believed to have helped plan the October 7 attacks and is the second-in-command of the group's armed wing in Gaza.

Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Israel Defense Forces targeted and killed senior Hamas commander Raed Saad while he traveled in a vehicle in Gaza on Saturday, Israeli officials said.

Medical sources in Gaza hospitals reported that six Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in Gaza City and the northern areas of the enclave since early Saturday.
