A federal judge today ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to fully fund food aid for 42 million low-income Americans in November by Friday, blocking its plan to only provide reduced benefits during the government shutdown.

The federal judge ruled that Trump was choosing to withhold federal food aid due to "political reasons".

Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The Trump administration has one day to fully distribute Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for November, a federal judge ruled on Thursday.

The judge scolded Trump officials for failing to comply with his order to fund the SNAP program through November and gave them just 24 hours to do so.

A federal judge rebuked the administration for the way it tried to fund only partial benefits to food stamp recipients.

A federal judge in Rhode Island has ordered the Trump administration to find the money to fully fund SNAP benefits for November. The ruling Thursday was in response to a challenge from cities and nonprofits complaining that the administration was only offering to cover 65% of the maximum benefit. The Trump administration said last month that it would not pay benefits at all for November because of the federal shutdown. Last week, two judges ordered the government to pay at least partial benefits using an emergency fund. It initially said it would cover half, but it now says it will cover 65%.

The revised figures mean a family of four in the lower 48 states will receive about $646 for the month.
