US Vice President JD Vance on Thursday sharply criticized Europe for not adequately safeguarding Greenland against Russian and Chinese influence. Speaking at the White House, Vance urged European leaders to “take the president of the United States seriously” regarding the Arctic island.

Any attempt to seize Greenland from Denmark would fatally undermine the world’s most successful military alliance.

Denmark would have to defend itself in the event of an American attack on Greenland, said Denmark Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Defence Committee Rasmus Jarlov.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that an invasion of Greenland would mark “the end of NATO” and undermine the postwar global order.
