The US government on Tuesday announced fresh funding cuts to Harvard, a day after the elite school's president said it shared "common ground" with the Trump administration on many issues.

Harvard is already suing the Donald Trump administration over its decision to cut off grant funding to the university, after it refused to cede to what the university's president has said are illegal demands from the administration "to control whom we hire and what we teach".
