India-Canada row: India says it has shared 26 extradition requests with Canada and also security information on gangs, including the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was disclosed but no action has been taken so far

The ministry of external affairs on Thursday, October 17, revealed that India sought the extradition of members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang from Canada.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that similar extradition requests of syndicates linked to the Bishnoi gang were made recently as well, but Canada has not responded yet. 

The MEA had given the names of Gurjit Singh, Gurjinder Singh, Arshdeep Singh Gill, Lakhbir Singh Landa, Gurpreet Singh for extradition, saying that the members of the Bishnoi gang were among them.

The relations between the two countries came under severe strain following Trudeau’s allegations in September last year of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in Nijjar’s killing. New Delhi rejected Trudeau’s charges as “absurd”.

In the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, India has raised concerns over Canada's handling of criminals linked to organised crime.
