Amid a growing chorus in the party for his elevation, Tamil Nadu sports minister and son of Chief Minister M K Stalin, Udhayanidhi, was elevated as the deputy CM on Saturday with additional responsibility, in a cabinet reshuffle that saw the return of V Senthil Balaji to the council of ministers two days after securing bail in a money laundering case.

After being delayed by controversies, elections, and other recent crises, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, is set to become the state's new Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has appointed his son Udhayanidhi Stalin as the state's Deputy Chief Minister.

Udhayanidhi Stalin is currently the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet. He will also get the portfolio of Planning and Development.

While the BJP took a jibe at Udhayanidhi and said that "one more son will rise in Tamil Nadu politics", the AIADMK said that it signified the "end of DMK" in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state in 2026.

Tamil Nadu News: Udhayanidhi Stalin has been appointed Deputy Chief Minister and will take the oath of office on Sunday. Several new ministers are to be inducted, while three existing ministers have been dropped.

Chief Minister MK Stalin recommended Senthil Balaji's name, alongside Dr Govi Chezhiaan, R Rajendran, and SM Nasar, to be inducted into the council of ministers, which Governor RN Ravi approved.
