The petitioners have argued that the Supreme Court verdict, declining to accord legal recognition to same-sex marriages, compelled gay couples to remain in the closet.

A bench comprising Justice BR Gavai, Justice Suryakant, Justice BV Nagarathna, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Dipankar Datta considered the review petitions.

In its latest ruling on same-sex marriages, the top court stated that there was "no error apparent on the face of the record" in its earlier judgment. The bench emphasised that the views expressed in the original verdict were in accordance with the law and required no further interference.

Dismissing the review pleas, the bench said that after examining the judgments of Justice Ravindra Bhat (delivered with Justice Hima Kohli) and Justice P S Narasimha, which formed the majority, the bench found no errors in them.
