The Delhi government has banned private BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles, prohibited the entry of interstate non-electric-CNG buses, certain categories of construction activities as the city choked under 'severe'-category air pollution.

In a bid to tackle worsening air pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued around 550 challans, imposing a total fine of over Rs 1 crore, to vehicles on Friday on the first day of the ban on these vehicles under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) III in the city.

As of 8 AM on Saturday, the 24-hour AQI stood at 406, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. While the AQI improved slightly to the 'very poor' category yesterday evening, it deteriorated again overnight due to reduced wind speeds and high humidity levels.

Interstate buses from NCR states, except for those powered by EVs, CNG, or BS-VI diesel, are also barred from entering Delhi. However, buses and tempo travelers operating under All India Tourist Permits are exempted from this restriction.

Delhi has continued to choke under the 'severe' category of air pollution for the last few days. The restrictions under stage III of the GRAP were imposed on Friday by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
