The son of Norway's future queen has admitted a life of excess, blaming it on an "extreme need for recognition", but denied raping a woman at his parents' royal estate in 2018.

The son of Norway's crown princess has denied that videos on his phone showed acts of rape, as he broke down during his first day on trial.

Marius Borg Hoiby, Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s 29-year-old son, admitted living a life of excess with ‘a lot of sex, a lot of drugs, and a lot of alcohol’.

On the second day of his trial, Marius Borg Hoiby further denied rape charges and said growing up in the public eye has led him to have an "extreme need for affirmation".
