JERUSALEM >> The Israeli military said it killed one of Hamas’ top commanders in the Gaza Strip in a targeted strike on a car today, in what would be the most high-profile assassination of a senior figure in the militant group since the ceasefire began two months ago.

Israel described Raad Saad as the head of the weapons production headquarters of Hamas' military wing, who led the group's "force build-up", and one of the "architects" of the Oct 7, 2023, attack that sparked the war in Gaza. 

Hamas said a civilian vehicle had been struck outside Gaza City and asserted it was a violation of the ceasefire that took effect on October 10.
