The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has suspended Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) acting Managing Director Abel Gurupira pending investigations into recent power failures that occurred during key events, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Tuesday.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda has warned that the person responsible for cutting electricity during President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) “will regret the day he was born,” after a sudden blackout plunged the New Parliament Building into darkness during the final minutes of the speech.

HARARE - The Managing Director of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), Eng. Abel Gurupira, has been suspended from duty pending investigations into a series of power outages that occurred during key national events, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Tuesday.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that a circuit breaker supplying the load tripped, causing a power outage at the new Parliament Building during President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), Parliament has said.
