BJP leader Locket Chatterjee accused West Bengal police of halting a Ram Navami rally she was leading from New Town near Kolkata, sparking tensions and a rerouting of the spiritual procession.

The BJP alleged targeted attacks on Hindus in Kolkata and blamed the Trinamool Congress, while police denied that any Ram Navami procession had taken place in the area.

With West Bengal being on high alert due to Ram Navami celebrations on Sunday, organisers of a rally could face police action after they went ahead with a rally in Howrah where the participants brandished arms during the procession.
