May 18 (UPI) -- Cuba's foreign minister on Monday reaffirmed the country's right to "self-defense" against external aggression after a media report alleging his government acquired more than 300 military drones.

Cuba's leader warned Monday of a "bloodbath" in the event of an American attack, while the US Treasury sanctioned Cuba's main intelligence agency and top leaders as tensions spiked between the arch-foes.

Miguel Diaz-Canel said any US military action against Cuba would cause a bloodbath. The warning followed a drone report that sharpened already rising tensions with Washington.
