The Karnataka Cabinet has also approved the limit for the SC, ST community which has been extended from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore.

Following Karnataka government's approval, the BJP raised concerns over the Congress government's decision, with Ravi Shankar Prasad stating that the issue is not limited to Karnataka but has "nationwide implications."

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar maintained that the addition of the new Category 2B, which is at the centre of the controversy, to the KTPP Act is meant not only for Muslims but for all minorities, emphasising that it only applied to smaller public works projects.

DK Shivakumar clarification came after opposition parties criticised it as an attempt to appease the Muslim community.
