Italy has imposed a classroom cap on students with limited Italian and banned face-covering veils in schools. The decree has sharpened debate over integration, enforcement and immigration politics ahead of possible elections.

Italy’s conservative government on Thursday has approved a school decree limiting classrooms to 30% of students with insufficient Italian-language skills and banning full-face Islamic veils, including burqas and niqabs.
