Sonam Wangchuk was detained on September 26 last year, two days after violent protests over statehood and constitutional protection left four people dead and 50, including security personnel, injured in Ladakh's Leh.

Following the revocation of the NSA provisions, Wangchuk was freed from prison after completing the required legal and administrative formalities.

Ladakh's planned protest on March 16 demands constitutional safeguards, despite Sonam Wangchuk's release, highlighting ongoing civil rights struggles.
