Three sons of former Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei made a rare public appearance at his funeral, but there was still no sign of their brother and his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Before dawn, hundreds of mourners gathered in Tehran as Iran began days of funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed months earlier in a joint US-Israeli airstrike.

July 5 (UPI) -- Three of late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei attended his dayslong funeral on its second day Sunday.

Nearly four months after his death, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's burial is taking place as Iran and the US observe a fragile ceasefire.

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was absent as funeral prayers for his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were held early on July 5, more than four months after he was killed during US-Israeli strikes at the outset of the war in the Middle East.

Three of Ali Khamenei’s sons joined the mass prayers, but not his successor, Mojtaba, who has not been seen in public since he assumed the role.
