Rescuers battled waves of up to 2.5 metres to reach the ferry.

Rescuers in Indonesia said at least six people were killed and 130 others were missing after a ferry sailing between the islands of Java and Borneo was hit by bad weather and capsized.

The ship was carrying over 240 people in the Java Sea when it ran into bad weather. Officials say six people have died and 130 are still missing.

Basarnas, Indonesia's national search and rescue agency, said in its latest update that six people were killed and 129 were missing. It said 108 people had been rescued.
