Ending more than four decades of conjecture, the Spanish government moved to publish documents from a long-secret investigation of a failed 1981 coup.

In what appears an extraordinary coincidence, the coup leader has died on the same day as the document release.

The release comes on the same day as the death of the coup leader, Antonio Tejero Molina.

For years, conspiracists suggested former King Juan Carlos may have had some involvement in the coup attempt.
