The Parades Commission of Northern Ireland has allowed the Orange Order parade at Drumcree to proceed in a limited capacity for the first time in 28 years.

Residents living on Garvaghy Road previously said they will “mobilise” and “come together” if the parade is allowed to march through their community.

‘The government does not want to see a return to the divisions of the past,’ said a spokesperson. ‘That would be a retrograde step.’

A procedural error by the Parades Commission reopened a dispute that had effectively been settled for almost three decades.
