President Donald Trump told Congress and the South African government that he intended to remove the country from the African Growth and Opportunity Act.

South Africa and Rwanda will be excluded from a major US-Africa duty free trade deal, Washington said on Monday. It blamed “practices inconsistent with the deal’s eligibility criteria," including barriers that undermine US trade and practices that pose a threat to US national security.

U.S. President Donald Trump will cut South Africa and Rwanda from the AGOA trade agreement at the end of the year as punishment for not meeting certain criteria.
