NFF set to honour Moses Simon for 100th Super Eagles cap
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has concluded plans to honour Super Eagles forward Moses Simon if he makes his 100th senior appearance for Nigeria against Madagascar on Friday.
Simon is in line to reach the milestone in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture after making his Super Eagles debut on March 25, 2015.
The 29-year-old has so far amassed 99 caps for Nigeria and scored 12 goals.
In the 99 matches he has featured in, the Super Eagles won 49, drew 30 and lost 20.
Simon has also played 64 competitive matches and 35 friendlies for Nigeria, including 23 appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations finals and 22 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
One of his early international appearances came in the 2018 FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifying campaign against Swaziland.
The return leg was played in Port Harcourt after Nigeria were held to a goalless draw in Mbabane. With qualification hopes at stake, Simon broke the deadlock late in the match by scoring directly from a 22-yard free-kick as the Eagles went on to win 2-0.
NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised Simon for his commitment to the national team and expressed the federation’s delight at his impending milestone.
Ikpeme said: “I can testify that Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being, having related with him at close quarters for several years.
