Falconets draw South Korea in final U-20 Women’s World Cup friendly

Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, played out a 1-1 draw with South Korea in their final international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the encounter was a closed-door international friendly played at the Remes Resort Stadium in Poland.

With  the Falconets coming into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in their previous warm-up match.

Mary Mamudu, who scored Nigeria’s winning goal against Poland, was once again on target as she gave the Falconets the lead in the 29th minute.

The Nigerian defender continued her impressive goalscoring form in the team’s final preparations for the tournament, calmly finishing to put Nigeria ahead following another encouraging attacking display by Moses Aduku’s side.

The Falconets maintained their advantage until the half-time break, with a 1-0 lead.

South Korea returned in the second half determined to level the score and eventually drew parity in the 78th minute after being awarded a penalty.

The South Koreans converted the spot-kick to make it 1-1, with neither side able to find a winning goal in the remaining minutes as the encounter ended in a stalemate.

NAN ​‌‌⁠​‌‍⁠⁠‌‍‌​​​​⁠​‌​reports that the Falconets defeated Poland 1-0 on August 28 in their first international friendly as part of their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

At the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, Nigeria will compete in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.

The Falconets will face Spain on September 7, China PR on Sept. 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.

Nigeria have been one of the most consistent teams in the history of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2014.

However, the Falconets are yet to win the title.
