Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after defeating Togo’s Sparrow Hawks 3-0 in their second Group B match at the Barry Konan Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The victory also keeps the defending champions on course for a place at the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.

After a closely contested first half ended goalless, the Flying Eagles returned from the break with renewed purpose.

Muiz Adeleke broke the deadlock just one minute into the second half, calmly slotting the ball beneath the Togolese goalkeeper to hand Nigeria the lead.

The forward doubled his tally in the 59th minute, finishing off a swift counterattack after rounding the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Substitute Abdoulaye Agbeloye completed the emphatic victory in the 85th minute, scoring shortly after coming off the bench to seal Nigeria’s second consecutive win of the tournament.

Coach Abdu Maikaba’s side had opened their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Ghana and now sit comfortably at the top of Group B with six points from two matches.

The Flying Eagles will round off their group campaign against Burkina Faso’s Young Stallions on Sunday, August 2, with their semi-final place already secured.

A top-two finish in the tournament will earn Nigeria qualification for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
