CAF CL: Rivers United hold Power Dynamos to draw

by · The Eagle Online

Nigeria’s Rivers United and Zambia’s Power Dynamos played out a 0-0 draw in their CAF Champions League Group A match on Saturday in Ndola, Zambia.

The stalemate in the CAF CL earned both teams their first group stage point after they were defeated in their opening two matches.

After three games, Rivers United and Power Dynamos remain joint bottom of Group A with one point apiece.

Buoyed by home support, Power Dynamos showed early attacking intent through quick transitions and wide play.

However, they failed to break down a disciplined Rivers United defence that stayed compact throughout the opening half.

The Nigerian side limited the hosts’ attacking threat and gradually enjoyed more possession as the half progressed.

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances, with goalkeepers rarely tested before the interval.

After the restart, Power Dynamos pressed harder for a breakthrough, while Rivers United relied on counter-attacks.

In spite of the increased tempo, efforts from both sides failed to trouble either goalkeeper.

The draw leaves qualification hopes slim for both sides, though still mathematically possible.
