LeBron James breaks NBA field-goals record by Moronfolu Adeyemi

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James has broken the NBA record for the most field goals made in league history, surpassing a long-standing mark set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

James reached the milestone during Thursday’s game against the Denver Nuggets, overtaking Abdul-Jabbar’s tally of 15,837 field goals with a fadeaway jumper in the first quarter.

The achievement adds another landmark to the career of the 41-year-old, who already holds the NBA’s all-time scoring record.

Despite the historic moment, the Lakers fell 120–113 to the Nuggets.

Abdul-Jabbar set the previous record before retiring in 1989, and the mark stood for decades before James moved past it.

The latest milestone further strengthens James’ reputation as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

Karl Malone remains third on the all-time list with 13,528 field goals.

James’ career has been defined by remarkable longevity and sustained performance across more than two decades in the league.

He entered the NBA in 2003 and is currently playing his 23rd season, a record in the league.

In February 2023, the Lakers star also surpassed Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer when he moved past 38,388 points.

Since then, he has continued to extend that mark and now has more than 43,000 career points, nearly 5,000 ahead of Abdul-Jabbar, who sits second on the all-time scoring list.

James’ scoring surge has also been aided by changes in the modern game, as Abdul-Jabbar played much of his career before the introduction of the three-point line.

Another potential milestone could follow soon.

James is currently second on the NBA’s all-time list for regular-season appearances with 1,606 games, closing in on Robert Parish’s record of 1,611.

If he features in every scheduled game before then, he could surpass Parish when the Lakers face the Houston Rockets on March 16.
